Is your hybrid team having trouble focusing?
Is your hybrid team having trouble focusing?
With all the overwhelming distractions, unrealistic expectations, and incoming requests (“it’ll just take a minute”), it can be hard for your team to do deep work.
As a leader, it's up to you to help create the right environment.
Here are seven ways you can help your people to stay engaged:
1. Inventory tasks and projects and ensure people are keeping current to-do lists.
2. Clarify and curate communication channels and set expectations around response times.
3. Normalize saying no and create psychological safety around airing overwhelm and burnout.
4. Make meetings meaningful and allow people to decline meaningless meetings.
5. Enable purposeful productivity by helping people address gaps between their current workload and what they need or want to be doing.
6. Formalize focus by putting it on the calendar, such as blocking out Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for focused work.
7. Respect boundaries by honouring when people indicate they are in focused work mode.
By implementing these practices, you can build a culture where your people can focus on the work that really matters and stay efficiently engaged in a world designed to keep them distracted.
