Three Good Reasons to Embrace Flex Work
Is flex work necessary evil? Or a change for the better? It has many benefits, including:
1. Less work-life conflict: Giving people more control over their schedules allows for better balance between their work and personal responsibilities. This reduces stress and burnout and increases well-being.
2. Increased happiness: Flex work can lead to increased job satisfaction and motivation, as people feel more valued and respected by their employer.
3. Longer retention: With almost 60% of employees wanting choice over flex work - not offering some form will lead to huge retention problems. And with the tight labour market, employees have more opportunities to move than ever. Add to that the fact that it takes two to six months for new hires to get up to speed - it’s hard to see how you can NOT offer flex work.
Perhaps more importantly, is the move for leaders from what I call a “surveillance” mindset to a “trust” mindset.
My program “Leading Hybrid Teams Effectively” helps your leaders develop their teams so they become (to a large extent) “self-managing”.
Aside from the obvious need for this in a hybrid environment, it also helps free up the “headspace” in time for leaders to devote to their own work and strategic objectives.
But it does require an open and welcoming attitude to flex work. What is the attitude of your leaders to flex work?
