What does your home office look like?

Remote work has become the new norm, but let's address the elephant in the virtual room: not everyone has a dedicated home office free from clutter and distractions.

And yes, it matters.  In fact, studies have shown that the productivity gains from working from home only occurred when there was a dedicated home office working space.

So I’ve got some practical tips together:

1. Establish Boundaries

Establish boundaries with your family members or housemates during your work hours. Setting expectations and creating a shared understanding of the importance of a quiet and uninterrupted environment can go a long way in minimising distractions.

2. Manage your time

Be proactive in managing your time effectively. Identify the times of day when distractions are minimal, and schedule your most important tasks accordingly. Consider utilising noise-canceling headphones or playing soft background music to create a focused ambiance.

3. Get organised

Maintain a clutter-free and organised workspace, even if it's limited in size. Utilise storage solutions, shelves, or desk organisers to keep essential items within reach and reduce visual distractions.

While having a dedicated home office free from clutter and distractions may not be a reality for every remote worker, it's essential to adapt and find creative solutions. Remember, it's about finding balance and making the most of the space you have.
