Are you offering Flex Work or Boundaryless Working?

Does your organisation have ‘flex’ work or ‘endless’ work?

The rise of remote work has brought about the opportunity for "boundaryless working" where work never stops and employees are expected to be available 24/7.

It’s not beneficial for either organisations or their people.

Unclear boundaries between work and personal time leads to job creep.

Work starts to invade non-work space, negatively impacting the quality of life, including symptoms of depression and overwork.

And here’s how to tell which one you have: Do your leaders make requests of their team outside of agreed times? Do their teams feel obliged to respond outside business hours?

Instead of boundaryless work, organisations should focus on providing the right type of flexible working, where people have the flexibility they need to balance their professional and personal lives while also having the resources and support to be successful in their work.

This is not work without boundaries.

What is your organisation – indeed, what are you as a leader - expecting from your remote team members?  Is it flex work, or boundaryless work?
